Foster A Pet

How to Foster

We invite you to become a foster and join our non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer rescue organization committed to saving and protecting the lives of at-risk of euthanasia, stray and abandoned dogs and puppies.

FOSTER HOMES are ESSENTIAL to rescue and place deserving animals in loving forever homes. There are so many at risk! The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can rescue. We encourage you to please contact us about fostering, come visit us at an adoption event or send us your application today! Even fostering for a week saves a life. We’ll gladly respond and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Fostering FAQs

How long are dogs in foster homes?? There is no average length of stay; it depends on the animal and the situation. But somewhere between one and three weeks is typical. Exposure at adoption events makes a big difference.

What are foster parents asked to do?

  • Transport the dog to adoption events. Events are held SUNDAYS at PETCO NEWPORT BEACH, 1280 Bison Ave. from 12:00 – 3:00 PM.
  • All vet care is provided by our organization. Food and supplies will also be provided if needed.
  • Monitor the animal’s behavior and physical health. Report any problems. Be able to transport to vet if needed.
  • Enjoy the gratitude and love you’re sure to receive along with the rewarding experience of saving a life!

Can I foster if I have animals of my own?? Yes, in almost all cases. Most rescued pets enjoy the company of other animals. It also allows for socialization to prepare the rescued pet for optimum adoptability.

Do I need specialist knowledge?? No. If you are familiar with basic training techniques, we hope you will practice manners with your foster animal.

How much time would I need to spend each day?? It depends on the situation. Young, energetic dogs need exercise and play; older dogs spend much of their time snoozing.

Can students earn Community Service credits by fostering?? Yes! Fostering is a fun and rewarding experience for students to choose to earn Community Service credits.
